VirtualBox 4.3.4

Met VirtualBox kun je binnen een besturingssysteem een ander besturingssysteem (os) virtueel draaien. Handig om Linux vanuit Windows uit te proberen bijvoorbeeld.

VirtualBox 4.3.4 - dat afgelopen weekend verscheen - is een tweede onderhoudsupdate voor versie 4.3. Hierin worden diverse crashes, regressies en fouten gerepareerd. Ook een geheugenlek onder Windows en een probleem in OS X Mavericks - waarbij het VirtualBox icoon in de dock zichtbaar bleef, terwijl de virtuele machine al afgesloten was - zijn opgelost. Het gisteren uitgekomen VirtualBox 4.3.0 is een grote update voor de virtualisatiesofware van Oracle. Hierin is onder andere de code voor Intels VT-x en AMD's AMD-V virtualisatie-mogelijkheden helemaal herschreven waardoor prestaties en stabilteit van virtuele machines aanzienlijk vergroot moeten worden.

Ook is het berichtensysteem aangepast: meldingen en waarschuwingen worden nu in een grijze balk bovenaan weergegeven. Verder is de ondersteuning voor video capturing toegevoegd. Ten slotte zijn heel veel kleine verbeteringen en vernieuwingen doorgevoerd en diverse fouten en crashes opgelost. Details kun je hieronder nalezen.

VirtualBox 4.2.18 is vrijdag verschenen. Dit is een onderhoudsupdate voor de virtualisatiesoftware die een paar crashes met DVD repareert en enkele fouten oplost. Zo zijn enkele problemen met scrollen en positie van de muis verholpen. Ook worden bij een upgrade van VirtualBox onder Mac OS X nu de oude extensie pakketten behouden.
