Comodo Internet Security (CIS) is een compleet gratis beveiligingspakket met firewall en anti-virus.
Het gisteren verschenen Comodo Internet Security 2013 (of 6.0) is een grote update die diverse nieuwe onderdelen introduceert. Ook is de interface grondig op de schop genomen, vereenvoudigd en geschikt gemaakt voor aanraakschermen.

Een belangrijke vernieuwing is dat Virtual Kiosk is toegevoegd: een virtuele omgeving in een sandbox, waarbinnen je nieuwe programma's kunt uitproberen zonder dat je systeem overhoopt gegooid wordt of veilig online kunt shoppen en internet bankieren met de Comodo Dragon Browser of met je eigen browser. Klik op Virtual Kiosk in Comodo's hoofdvenster en je komt in een beveiligde bureaubladomgeving.
Comodo Internet Security 2013 herbergt nu ook enkele componenten die al eerder als losse programma's te verkrijgen waren. Dit zijn:
- Comodo Cleaning Essentials (vanaf usb-stick te gebruiken voor het schoonmaken van besmette systemen)
- Comodo Autorun Analyzer (analyseer opstartende programma's)
- Comodo KillSwitch (om je systeem te monitoren en schadelijke processen te beëindigen)
Verder plaatst CIS 2013 een widget op je bureaublad die informatie geeft en vanwaaruit je enkele instellingen kunt wijzigen en je browsers kunt starten. De widget kun je natuurlijk ook uitschakelen.
Onder het Tasks-menu rechtsboven in het hoofdvenster (er is nog geen Nederlandse vertaling) kun je wisselen naar een venster met allerlei beheerstaken en geavanceerde instellingen. Hier kun je firewall en sandbox (Virtual Kiosk) beheren en onder Advanced tasks kun je een rescue disk maken en de processen op je pc monitoren. Ook zijn hier de geavanceerde instellingen voor anti-virus en firewall terug te vinden (onder Open advanced settings). Met een klik op Home keer je weer terug in het hoofdvenster.

Nieuw in Comodo Internet Security 2013 is verder File Rating: een cloudgebaseerd analysesysteem waarbij bestanden als veilig of onveilig beoordeeld worden.
Of Comodo Internet Security 2013 de beste bescherming biedt valt nog niet te zeggen, maar het is zeker een van de meest complete (gratis) beveiligingspakketten. De virtuele omgeving (Virtual Kiosk) met eigen, op Google Chrome gebaseerde, Comodo Dragon browser is een groot pluspunt.
Ook de versimpelde interface van Comodo 2013 bevalt ons wel. Enig minpuntje hier is de prominente plek voor de Task Manager in het hoofdvenster, vanwaaruit je alleen processen van Comodo zelf kunt beheren: iets waar niet veel gebruikers naar zullen omkijken, denken wij.
Comodo Internet Security 2013 (6.0) is wat ons betreft veelbelovend. Tests zullen moeten uitwijzen hoe goed de bescherming is. Het beveiligingspakket is gratis beschikbaar voor 32-bits en 64-bits versies van Windows XP, Vista, 7 en 8. Een Nederlandse vertaling is er (nog) niet.
Let goed op bij de installatie! Je wilt misschien niet gebruikmaken van de DNS-servers van Comodo en ook je startpagina en zoekmachine niet veranderen in Yahoo! Dan moet je tijdens de installatie-procedure de vinkjes hiervoor weghalen. Een mail-adres invullen hoeft ook niet.

COMODO Autorun Analyzer
The Autorun Analyzer makes a thorough check on the Start-up items that are loaded during system start-up and shows them as a list with their threat rating.
