Nitro PDF Reader 1.4 is verschenen. In deze versie van de nieuwe, veelbelovende PDF-lezer zijn diverse wijzigingen doorgevoerd. Het betreft vooral kleine aanpassingen die het gebruikersgemak moeten vergroten.

Zo is er intelligente hyperlink herkenning die ook linkjes in platte tekst aanklikbaar maakt. Verder wordt de laatst bekeken pagina van een pdf in het geheugen van Nitro opgeslagen, zodat die bij een volgende keer bekijken automatisch weer opent.

Ten slotte kleine tweaks: F11 wisselt naar volledig scherm, de laatst gebruikte map om pdf'jes op te slaan wordt onthouden, Ctrl+A selecteert nu het hele document in plaats van de huidige pagina en de Evernote-plugin wordt verborgen als u geen gebruik maakt van deze applicatie.

Nitro PDF Reader 1.4 - de snelle vervanger van Adobe Reader - is verkrijgbaar in het Nederlands voor Windows XP, Vista en 7.

Intelligent hyperlink activation

Many PDF files contain web addresses (URLs) written in plain text, therefore you cannot load the web site by clicking the link. Nitro Reader 1.4 features automatic recognition and conversion of web URLs into active hyperlinks, enabling you to load a web page without having to manually paste the address into your web browser.

Previous page-view memory

Did you accidentally close a PDF file whilst reading page… err, what page where you at? Don’t worry, this happens to the best of us. Reader 1.4 will remember the last page when you re-open a document, and it will also remember the page-view and zoom settings. If you prefer to start from the beginning whenever you open a PDF file you can disable the setting from the preferences dialog.

Other important enhancements

Apart from several bug fixes and performance improvements, you can also expect a number of tweaks to existing features. Here’s a preview of  some of the included enhancements:

• Nitro PDF Creator will automatically save new PDF files to the last folder you used for previous creations. You can manually pick a different folder if you wish to save the new PDF document in a different location.
• If you prefer not to use the Evernote^© plugin, it will be hidden from the File menu if the Evernote desktop client is not found on your system.
• When viewing the Document Properties for a PDF file you can also check if the document’s author disabled page extraction.
• F11 toggles full screen view.
• The Update Manager is more informative when product updates are available. You will also be reminded to save and close your PDF documents before proceeding with the updates.
• The Output Pane will be hidden unless it has information to display, for a cleaner application window with even less distractions.
• The Ctrl+A keyboard sequence now highlights the content of the entire document, not just the current page.
