AVG Anti-Virus Free 2012.1796

Gratis virusscanner AVG is aanbeland bij versie 2012.1796. Deze upgrade brengt, anders dan de stap in versienummer van 2011 naar 2012 doet vermoeden, niet heel veel vernieuwingen in de gratis versie. De meeste nieuwe functies zitten alleen in de betaalde variant. Wel zijn in de gratis versie diverse onderdelen onder handen genomen en veel kleine verbeteringen doorgevoerd.

Zo is de anti-rootkit-bescherming verbeterd en zijn veel crashes opgelost. Ook zijn conflicten met andere beveiligingssoftware - zoals BitDefender en Kaspersky - verholpen. Beveiliging tegen fake (rogue) anti-virus is eveneens aangescherpt.

Verder is een nieuwe browserwerkbalk geïntroduceerd die als nieuwe functie 'private browsing' heeft. Iets wat de meeste moderne browsers trouwens ook al bieden. Nieuw is ten slotte AVG Advisor, een hulpmiddeltje dat waarschuwt als Internet Explorer, Firefox en Google Chrome teveel geheugen gebruiken. Handig, maar niet echt essentieel te noemen.

Het scannen met AVG is sneller geworden, maar het opstarten van Windows wordt nog altijd behoorlijk vertraagd door de Tsjechische virusscanner.

AVG Anti-Virus Free 2012 is gratis te downloaden voor Windows XP, Vista en 7. Er is ook een 64-bits versie. AVG is in het Nederlands vertaald. Huidige gebruikers kunnen updaten vanuit het programma zelf.
