Avira AntiVir Personal 10.0.0.650 SP2

Service Pack 2 voor Avira AntiVir Personal 10 is verschenen. Deze update voor het Duitse anti-virus programma heeft de nodige ophef veroorzaakt. AntiVir levert in deze versie namelijk een WebGuard mee voor internetbescherming die geïntegreerd zit in de irritante en onnodige toolbar van Ask. En de Ask-toolbar was nu juist een van de adware-producten waar Avira vroeger zo tegen gekant was.

Verder is SP2 voor Avira AntiVir uitgerust met betere bescherming, minder geheugengebruik, grotere stabiliteit, verbeterde compatibiliteit met andere applicaties en meer mooie nieuwe eigenschappen. Al dit goeds valt echter in het niet bij het meeleveren van een gehate adware-toolbar met een voorheen als degelijk en betrouwbaar betitelde Duitse virusscanner...

De toolbar wordt trouwens pas na herstarten van de pc aangeboden via een popup-venster van Avira boven de systeembalk. U kunt kiezen om de WebGuard (en Ask-toolbar) te installeren of om dit later te doen. In het laatste geval vertoont het Avira-icoontje in de systeembalk een ingeklapte paraplu om aan te geven dat de bescherming niet compleet is (de WebGuard is uitgeschakeld). In een volgende update gaat Avira dit misleidende signaal rechtzetten.

Avira geeft hier trouwens instructies hoe u de Avira Search Free Toolbar (zoals de Ask werkbalk genoemd wordt) kunt verwijderen. De WebGuard met internetbescherming wordt dan wel gelijk uitgeschakeld.

Avira AntiVir Personal Free is te downloaden voor Windows XP, Vista en 7. Er is ook een Linux-versie.

  • AntiVir is overall more stable and fully compatible with the Windows operating system
  • Some localized strings are now displayed correctly
  • Less interference by the FireWall by newly added common vendors to the database
  • Increased accuracy in the reporting of canceled scan jobs
  • Easier deactivation of the Guard by the user
  • Clearer information about necessary reboots in the case of an infected operating system that needs reparations
  • Easier reboot handling for all AntiVir product modules
