VLC media player 2.1.1
VLC media player is het populairste alternatief voor Windows Mediaspeler. En het voordeel van VLC is dat de applicatie bijna alle audio- en video-bestanden kan afspelen. Je hebt dus maar één mediaspeler nodig voor al je muziek en films - in welk formaat dan ook.
Vandaag is VLC media player 2.1.1 uitgebracht. Dit is een onderhoudsupdate die heel veel foutjes en enkele crashes - zoals bij GPU decoding onder Windows - oplost. Behalve deze stabiliteitsverbeteringen is ook nieuwe functionaliteit toegevoegd.
Zo ondersteunt VLC nu VP9 in WebM (een door Google ontwikkelde open video-codec) en ook de H.265/HEVC codec - wat de efficiëntere opvolger is van de wereldwijd gebruikte H.264 codec voor video streaming. H.265 (ook wel High Efficiency Video Coding of HEVC genoemd) comprimeert bestanden twee zo sterk als H.264, wat betekent dat de downloadgrootte van een video gehalveerd wordt.
Verder is het installatieproces van VLC onder Windows verbeterd en is het updatemechisme vereenvoudigd. Ook de interface van VLC onder Mac OS X kent vele verbeteringen: zo is de volledig scherm weergave gerepareerd en kun je vensters weer naar behoren vergroten of verkleinen. Ten slotte zijn de vertalingen van VLC bijgewerkt.
VLC 2.1.1 is in het Nederlands te downloaden voor Windows XP, Vista, 7 en 8, Mac OS X en Linux. Er zijn ook versies van VLC voor Android en iOS.
